Choosing an area rug for your classroom

Choosing an area rug for your classroom can turn into a confusing decision; which one is the right size, color and pattern? With hundreds of our classroom rugs to choose from, this can be a daunting task. Hopefully these tips will help you make the decision with certainty.

COLOR

Color choices for school rugs are mostly, but not all, pretty bright. Kids tend to like vibrant and fun color combinations, but in some cases it’s not the best idea. KidCarpet.com’s line of earth toned rugs are a little less stimulating but still fun and educational. For example, check out our Patchwork ABC earth tone rug pictured above. There are several more earth tone rugs to choose from too, so be sure to check them all out.

Darker colors tend to appear cleaner due to the fact that they hide dirt better. We use darker tones in our rugs just for that purpose, although we have many designs with lighter colors as well. Consider your traffic and use area when selecting colors.

PATTERN

What activity will you use the rug for? A reading corner, a seating arrangement, an activity center? We have designs to compliment several purposes. A library or reading nook can have designs with books on them, like our Let’s Book It Story Rug.

For the purpose of organizing you class, we have a wide variety of seating rug options. Finally, rugs for specific activities are always fun! Besides the alphabet rugs and number rugs, we have music themes, game rugs, road rugs, religious rugs and the list goes on! We have solid rugs too in case the absence of a pattern is your preference.

SIZE AND SHAPE

Last but certainly not least, the size and shape of your rug is very important. You don’t want to have a rug delivered that you discover all too late doesn’t fit your room. Lay out the dimensions of the rug you are considering with masking tape on your floor. This will give you a visual aid when deciding the size and whether a rectangle, square, round or oval rug would look and feel best.

For tight spaces we have corner rugs and semicircle rugs .

We also carry rugs as large as 12’x24’ and as small as 3’x5’.

Remember, if you need any help finding something specific, we are here to help!
