Do I Need a Rug Pad?

Ever wonder if you NEED a pad to go with your new area rug? We get lots of customers wondering the same thing and while there are advantages to having a pad, it’s not really a necessity. Let’s take a look at a few scenarios where you might want to consider purchasing a rug pad.

    Prevent Slips and Falls

Kids are ALWAYS on the go…running, jumping, spinning, etc.! Most of our rugs are pretty heavy duty and tend to stay in place, but if you are concerned with the rug slipping due to all this energy, a pad can help keep it in place preventing any accidents.

        Provide Protection for the Rug

Dirt particles wear away a rug’s fabric over time. Debris that is trapped between a rug and the floor will tear into a carpet’s materials when footsteps create pressure, which will create traffic lanes. Padding beneath a rug helps provide protection from this issue.

            Help with Cleaning

It is challenging to keep kid’s rugs looking great between professional cleanings. Another benefit of pads is they allow for more efficient vacuuming by providing a space for air to flow between carpet and floor.

                Add Extra Cushion

While some of the benefits to padding a rug are subtle, the extra cushion padding provides is obvious. The extra cushioning can be a big benefit especially in day care and nursery settings where toddlers and babies are constantly on the floor.

KidCarpet.com sells only one type of carpet pad and that’s because we believe it is the top of the line:

                  ONE PRODUCT – ANY FLOOR!

TEEBAUD® has been developed and engineered to obtain the best nonskid performance for a rug pad. The product is made of two different polyester fibers needle-punched together and coated, on both sides, with a specially formulated water-based pressure sensitive dry adhesive which will outperform pads coated with a plain polymeric-acrylic resin. TEEBAUD®’s two components, containing 12 ounces of fiber per square yard, gives to the pad enough body and density to resist the horizontal movement that creates the buckling effect of the underlay under the rug.

This is why TEEBAUD® has almost one pound of fiber per yard, compared to most competing products which commonly have only 3 to 4 ounces of fiber. The light cushioning effect allows the pad and the rug to breathe together with no risk of oxidation or discoloration to any flooring surface. TEEBAUD® will not give a permanent bond to the floor. It is a repositionable underlay: harmless to carpeting, floors and rugs.
